The UFC Octagon was in London, England for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Brady event at the O2 Arena.
Former welterweight champion Leon Edwards headlined the event pitted against No. 5 ranked Sean Brady.
Edwards lost the welterweight title to Belal Muhammad last July. It was the first loss for “Rocky” in a decade. He looked to rebound against Brady. Brady entered the bout riding a two-fight winning streak with his only career loss coming to champion Muhammad.
There was no touch of gloves. Brady came out aggressive. He pressed forward behind his jab. Edwards pawed with his jab. Edwards clinched and delivered a knee to the body before separating. Brady continued to apply forward pressure. They cliched but quickly separated. Brady connected with a right hand. He landed a left and clinched. Edwards went to the body with a left. They clinched again and Edwards delivered a knee to the body. They broke free and Brady continued to press forward. They clinched and Brady pressed Edwards against the cage. He delivered knees to the legs of Edwards. Edwards turned the position and landed punches to the body. Brady tripped Edwards to the canvas in the closing seconds likely winning the round.
Brady crossed the cage and immediately went for a takedown to start the second frame. He drug Edwards to the ground and moved to side control before taking Edwards’ back. He delivered short left hands. Brady applied a body triangle and continued to land short punches. Edwards scrambled to half guard. Brady isolated an arm and looked for a kimura. Edwards got his arm free but Brady advanced to the mount. Edwards rolled. Brady ended the round on top. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Brady.
Edwards’ corner told him that they needed these last three rounds before coming out for the third frame.
Brady continued to press forward. Edwards landed an uppercut as Brady closed the distance. He connected with an elbow and Brady looked for a takedown. Edwards shook off the attempt and went for a takedown of his own. Brady stuffed it and briefly looked for a guillotine choke. He gave it up to gain top position. Brady advanced to the mount. Edwards rolled to his knees while Brady delivered a series of right hands. Edwards ended up on his back again. Brady took Edwards’ back and delivered punches. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Brady.
Brady pressured Edwards to start the fourth frame. He backed Edwards up with his forward pressure. Brady changed levels and took Edwards down. Brady locked on a guillotine choke. Edwards was forced to tap out.
The official time of the submission stoppage was 1:39 of the fourth round.
