The San Francisco Giants have sent shock waves across the baseball world just before the weekend series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers.Â
The Giants have acquired All-Star slugger Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox.Â

Devers is heading to the Bay Area in exchange for Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs and Jose Bello.
Although the MLB trade deadline is still a little over a month away, the Giants, in particular, wasted time in bolstering their roster. Just before Sunday’s matchup against the Dodgers, the Giants are only 1.0 back from the National League West lead, with a 41-30 record.
As for the Dodgers, they are sitting at the top for the time being with a 42-29 record.
This indeed throws a bit of a wrench into the Dodgers’ chances of coming away on top in the N.L. West. Not only is the race tight, but the Dodgers have been depleted with injuries, and if they stay on this course, there is a chance they could be dethroned.
There has been noticeable tension brewing between the Red Sox and Devers throughout much of the season. The dynamic began to shift after Boston signed Alex Bregman in the offseason — a move that immediately raised questions about Devers’ role moving forward.
Initially, Devers made it clear he wasn’t open to becoming a full-time designated hitter. He later softened his stance and has spent the bulk of the season in that spot. However, in early May, he drew another line, informing the team that he had no interest in playing first base.
The situation has added a layer of uncertainty to Devers’ future in Boston and left many wondering how long the current arrangement will last.
Now, as we sit in mid-June, it is clear that the Giants are all-in this season, as they feel they have a chance to claim the West. In the season, Devers is slashing .271/.400/.494 with a .894 OPS along with 14 home runs, 57 RBIs and 73 hits in 330 plate appearances.
