Lewis Hamilton ‘backs’ Fred VasseurThere had been no official denial of the reports in recent hours, so Lewis Hamilton took it upon himself to label them as “baseless” during the Montreal press conference. The Ferrari driver said the following:
“Fred Vasseur under pressure according to some newspapers? I was told about it just as I arrived here, I hadn’t read those articles, but it’s not nice to hear that those stories have come out. First of all, I love working with Fred, and he is the main reason I’m at Ferrari and why I made the decision to come here, and I’m grateful for that. We are in this journey together. I know that things aren’t perfect right now, but I’m here to work with the team and also with Fred. I want Fred to be here, and I believe he is the jey person who can lead us to the top. That’s it. In my opinion, these stories are senseless and baseless. Most people don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. It’s not all smooth sailing, it’s not all perfect. We’ve had to make a lot of changes, there’s a lot of work to do, and of course there’s a lot of pressure, but there is no ongoing discussion right now about Fred’s position, as far as I know.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion pointed out ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
He also told The Race: “Replacing Vasseur? That’s certainly not something I would support.”Finally, Lewis Hamilton expressed frustration at the constant rumors about him: “I’ll be here for a long time and there’s no doubt about where my head is at. I hope there won’t be more questions or doubts about it. I’m here to win in red.”
