In what was a night to remember at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally ended their 18-year wait by winning their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title. And among the thousands celebrating in the stands were none other than former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty, who had flown in to witness the historic moment in person.

Rishi Sunak celebrates RCB’s historic IPL triumph with Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma

Akshata, a Bengaluru native and daughter of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, had expressed her deep personal connection to RCB ahead of the final, proudly stating, ‘I’m married into a Bangalore family, so RCB is my team,’ As the thrilling six-run win over Punjab Kings unfolded, both Rishi and Akshata were seen cheering passionately, fully immersed in the emotion of the game, adding a touch of global spotlight to RCB’s long-awaited victory.

After RCB’s triumph was sealed, one of the most heartwarming moments of the night came off the field. Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty met with RCB’s iconic figure, Virat Kohli, and his wife, actress Anushka Sharma. The four shared a joyful photograph together that quickly went viral across social media platforms. With Kohli visibly emotional after ending his 18-year IPL title drought, the image captured a perfect mix of celebration, relief, and unity, with smiles all around and the coveted trophy in hand.

Akshata and Rishi later shared the image on her Instagram account with a heartfelt caption: “What a night. Ee Sala Cup Namdu,” The meeting of the power couples symbolized more than fandom, it highlighted how RCB’s journey resonated beyond cricket, crossing continents and connecting leaders, celebrities, and millions of supporters.

Kohli’s grit and emotion drive RCB to IPL 2025 Title

Kohli played a vital role in Bengaluru’s maiden IPL title win in the 2025 final against Punjab. Opening the innings, Kohli showed immense grit on a tricky surface, anchoring RCB’s innings with a composed 43 off 35 deliveries. Though not a flamboyant knock, it was crucial in giving the team a stable platform after early setbacks. Kohli’s calculated approach helped RCB post a competitive total of 190, which their bowlers later defended successfully. Beyond numbers, Kohli’s leadership, intensity, and sheer emotional investment in the game were on full display. As the final overs unfolded, he was seen visibly moved, wiping tears even before victory was sealed. His long-awaited dream lifting the IPL trophy after 18 seasons had finally come true, making it a night of personal and professional fulfillment.
