Day Ten at Roland Garros saw the first two men’s semi-final spots claimed, and neither match went the distance.

Lorenzo Musetti continued his dream clay season with a composed four-set win over Frances Tiafoe, seizing the key moments late in the third before powering through the fourth to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final.

Carlos Alcaraz followed that up with a ruthless demolition of Tommy Paul, dropping just five games in 94 minutes in a one-sided encounter. The Spaniard was locked in from the start, and with Paul hampered by injury, there was only ever going to be one outcome.

Alcaraz and Musetti will now face off in Friday’s semi-final in a battle between two of the tour’s most stylish shotmakers. Here’s a complete look back at how Day Ten unfolded.

Lorenzo Musetti’s exceptional 2025 clay season continued on Tuesday as the 23-year-old Italian secured his first semi-final berth at Roland Garros with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Frances Tiafoe.

The Italian was a big betting favourite heading in as he’s the stronger clay courter and made at least the semi-finals at all three clay Masters 1000 tournaments this spring.

Tiafoe, on the other hand, is more at home on hardcourts, and although he has played well in Paris, he’s had a pretty kind draw to get into the last eight.

As expected, Musetti started well, but he did get into trouble, dropping the second set and having to rally from 5-5, 15/30 to hold serve and break Tiafoe to seize control in the third. He then dominated the fourth set, winning 81% (61/75) of his first-serve points during the match and only dropping serve once.

I don’t think it was Musetti’s best match of the fortnight so far, but he played solidly enough, and Tiafoe looked to be tired towards the end, as in the third, he stopped moving.

I also thought the American looked a bit lackadaisical in parts. I know he’s hardly regarded as a master tactician or someone who stays locked in for the duration, but he seemed pretty negative out there.

The third set was decisive. Frances didn’t start as he wanted, I think, but today was complicated to play well. It was so windy and challenging to manage the balls properly. Especially the third set was a fight and it was not easy to make a break. I was a little bit tired and it was tough for me to stay there, but I found the extra energy to win the [third] set, and the last set was definitely my best set of the match. Musetti on his win.

Finally, there was a moment when Musetti kicked a ball that hit the line judge on the chest and received a warning for it. Is it a default? If you compare that with Djokovic’s default at the US Open a few years back, then there’s very little difference…

Carlos Alcaraz had a short evening’s work on Court Phillipe Chatrier, overpowering Tommy Paul 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals for the third straight year.

Matches between the pair are typically close-run affairs, but Paul was not at the races tonight as an abdominal injury hampered him and he couldn’t find his rhythm, hitting just 13 winners throughout.

Alcaraz, on the other hand, was on top form, firing 32 winners and winning 88% behind his first serve. It’s not easy to play against an opponent who is not operating at their usual level, but rather than let Paul into the match, Alcaraz played ruthlessly throughout, completing his win in just 94 minutes, which sets him up nicely for the semi-final against Musetti on Friday.

I could close my eyes and everything went in. My feeling today was unbelievable. I was trying to hit every shot at 100 per cent, not thinking about anything else, but just hitting. Today was one of those matches when everything just went in. Alcaraz on his win.
