A lot like Enzo Maresca has done all season, Jadon Sancho is now dividing an entire fan base pretty much down the middle. Opinions on Sancho, as they have been on Maresca, are very much like marmite right now.
For me, Sancho started very well for Chelsea but then well and truly fell off. He has come up with some important and very good goals, and has some reasonable goal involvement numbers.
According to Mozo Football, Sancho registered more successful take-ons (56) than any other Chelsea player during the 2024/25 season in all competitions combined.
His stats, via the same source, also look good:
– 41 games
– 26 starts
– 5 goals
– 9 assists
– 56 successful take-ons
– 55 chances created
– 120 progressive passes
– 136 progressive counter attacks ending in an action
– 50 passes into opposition box
– 95 shot creating actions
– 124 ball recoveries
But, he’s been frustrating to watch at times and has failed to give us the answers. But what he does have is a pretty unique profile in terms of what he can bring, and to be honest, he is a player I have always rated. If only he had the consistency to match his talent. He is also very much a confidence player and that also affects him.
I have to say, I’m rather on the fence about signing him. I’d be happy if we send him back, but I’d also be happy if we decide to keep him as a squad rotation option. After all, £25m is nothing in this market and he could easily be spun for a decent profit if needed down the line.
We will be signing a new left winger regardless anyway, so you cannot put that into your thinking.
Sancho wants to stay at Chelsea, but obviously he will need to drop his wage demands to do so. If he’s willing to do that, then it shows his love for the club and I say let’s just have him as a quality deep squad option if he is content to do that. As long as we don’t sign him as a regular starter, then fine.
And I asked the community their opinion on this last week. The outcome? VERY split down the middle.
49% want to KEEP Sancho
40% want to pay to send him back
12% want to sign him and sell him for profit this summer
I actually wasn’t expecting it to be this split to be honest. A lot of Chelsea fans I speak to really dislike Sancho, or at least dislike his performances for us, and want him gone as soon as possible. But he clearly still does have many fans here as well.
I’m on the fence on this one I’m afraid and I’m in a rare situation where I am fine with any outcome. I’m sure many others are in that boat with me as well.
