The US Women's Open in Erin Hills attracted enormous public attention, and although all eyes were on Nelly Korda and her potential first victory, the famous golfer was disappointed with the final outcome. Namely, Maja Stark, a 25-year-old Swedish golfer, showed her superiority in key moments, all the way to her first Majors title.
Korda tried to impose the pace during the last day, but had to settle for a score of 71, while her colleague Takeda played a 72. Towards the end of the tournament, it looked like Korda could spoil Maja's plans and come out on top, but Stark had a clear answer, with a birdie on the 14th hole, having a three-stroke lead.
The young golfer made bogeys on the last two holes, but it was enough to win.
In an interview with the media, the Swede expressed that she was surprised by this outcome, considering that few expected such a scenario.
The 25-year-old stresses that her confidence was shaken last week.
However, only the greatest manage to rise from the dust and finish the story in this style.
"It feels so surreal, and it felt like it was so far away just a couple of weeks ago," she said, as quoted by RTE.
"Just last week, my confidence was so low, and then I had a special friend tell me that you need to be confident. You need to trust yourself, and that’s what I try to do. I try to make myself and everyone on my team proud."
Can Nelly Korda excel again?
Although Korda had not excelled at this tournament in the past, her recent performance showed that she truly has the potential to win it in the future.
Korda is trying to find the form she had last year, but it seems she is facing many problems along the way.
Nevertheless, the 26-year-old is an optimist, aware that it is only a matter of time before she lifts the trophy this season.
