The Philadelphia Eagles are trading Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a Day 3 draft pick, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Due to salary cap considerations, this trade won’t become official until after June 1. Huff and the Eagles reportedly agreed to a restructured contract that offers financial relief to Philly. ESPN’s Field Yates shared more details on that front:

The Eagles declined Bryce Huff’s $15.58M fully guaranteed option bonus, which turned it into base salary.
Philadelphia then turned $9.05M of that base salary into a signing bonus, which allows San Francisco to take on the remaining money ($7.95M).
In sum, the Eagles save $7.95M in cash and create north of $15M in 2025 cap space.
San Francisco will inherit the final two years of Huff’s deal, owing him $7.95M in cap and cash for this year.
Huff’s departure certainly doesn’t come as a surprise. He was incredibly disappointing for the Eagles last season after being their top 2024 free agent signing in terms of contract value (yes, even above Saquon Barkley).
Dating back to last year’s training camp, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio didn’t exactly seem keen on Huff’s outlook. Huff then struggled in the regular season to the point where he was “unplayable.” He suffered a thumb injury in early November that caused him to play with a cast on his hand before going on injured reserve. Huff later returned from IR but he barely played in the playoffs; he was a healthy scratch in the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory.
Any hope of Huff returning to form in Philly was dashed earlier this week when it was revealed that he wasn’t attending the Eagles’ voluntary offseason workout program. The feeling here has been that Fangio simply does not trust him to play in his system, so therefore keeping Huff was pretty pointless. With that in mind, clearing salary and getting any kind of asset for him in return is a win. The 49ers are obviously banking on Huff being able to rebound now that he’s reunited with former New York Jets head coach and current San Francsico defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.
The Huff signing was obviously a big miss for Roseman in an otherwise excellent offseason from the Eagles’ general manager. He did well here to salvage that mistake as much as possible.
Moving forward, the Eagles still have questions at edge rusher. 2023 first-round pick Nolan Smith showed great potential down the stretch last season, as did rookie Jalyx Hunt to a lesser degree. The Birds need those young players to continue to progress. Philadelphia also signed free agent edge rushers Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche before selecting Antwaun Powell-Ryland with their final pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Time will tell if their pass rush is good enough.
