Ian Machado Garry and Jack Della Maddalena had an awkward interaction during UFC 315 fight week and now the floodgates are open.
“The Future” recently told Ariel Helwani that Della Maddalena made an insulting comment about his son in the run-up to the May 10 pay-per-view in Montreal, which concluded with Della Maddalena defeating Belal Muhammad for the UFC welterweight title. According to Garry, he had his son approach Della Maddalena with candy, a joking gesture suggesting the Australian standout should miss weight and lose the fight (Garry was the official backup for the main event).
Della Maddalena then allegedly suggested Garry’s son wasn’t his, which Garry found to be a disproportionate response. The feud continued to build Wednesday with Garry taking a crack at Della Maddalena’s physical appearance, comparing him to the deformed Sloth from The Goonies.

“I’m in a comic book shop here in England and I am shocked,” Garry said. “Never in my life have I seen the UFC move an action figure as fast as they have Jack Della Maddalena. I am so proud of you. Look at that. World champ and you’ve got your f*cking action figure. Good on you, pal, very proud of you. Good job.”
A Della Maddalena-Garry bout would likely draw plenty of interest, particularly with Garry’s enthusiasm when it comes to selling fights. However, Della Maddalena’s first championship defense has already been announced as he is expected to fight Pound-for-Pound king Islam Makhachev later this year at a date still to be determined following Makhachev vacating his lightweight title.
Della Maddalena is 8-0 in the UFC with an 18-fight win streak dating back to 2016, while Garry 9-1 in the UFC and recently scored a win over Carlos Prates to bounce back from his lone octagon loss.
