Some people just can’t remember Belal Muhammad’s name and that includes Montreal’s athletic commissioner who weighed the UFC welterweight champion in on Friday.
Muhammad, who will defend his 170-pound title for the first time this weekend against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 LIVE on ESPN+ PPV from inside Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, created his “Remember the Name” nickname for good reason. The 36-year-old fighter always wanted to become UFC champion and never wanted people to forget his name or count him out inside of the cage.
While Muhammad has proven to be one of the very best fighters in the sport today he’s still missing some of the recognition he strives for.
On Friday, Muhammad made his way onto the stage for UFC 315’s official weigh ins (replay HERE). The UFC welterweight champion has never had an issue making weight before so no surprises were expected. While Muhammad’s weight ended up being on point it was the Montreal athletic commissioner that threw “Remember the Name” for a loop. The bonehead commissioner didn’t recognize who Muhammad was and needed to confirm his name before allowing him to step on the scale, even pointing to the champ’s name on a piece of paper.
It was pretty embarrassing for Muhammad, but an even more mortifying moment for the commissioner who struggled to do much of anything right on Friday. Not knowing undercard names like Bekzat Almakhan or Ivan Erslan is one thing, but Muhammad is headlining the entire event. His face is plastered on every UFC 315 poster, promo, and advertisement piece inside and out of the arena. Not realizing that was him has to be an all-time fail in this commissioner’s career.

As expected, fight fans quickly reacted to the commissioner botching Muhammad’s official UFC 315 weigh in. Some already mock Muhammad for his desire to be remembered and liked among UFC fans so a few responses were pretty harsh. Check them out below:
“SOMEBODY remember the name.”
“That is just unprofessional, weighing in fighters and you don’t even know the main event.”
“Lmao it’s gotta be a running joke at this point.”
“Na imagine being the champion and the main event and not be recognized by the commission LOL.”
“Belal is the most hated champion.”
“Feel bad for him.”
“Commissioner didnt remember the name.”
“This is objectively hilarious.”
“Does ANYBODY remember the name?”
“Belal ‘please please don’t forget about me’ Muhammad.”
“And all he’s ever asked of us is to remember his name.”
“His nickname is not working lol.”
“I mean, that perfectly encapsulates Belal. Zero name recognition. Zero emotional pop from fans. Just nobody cares at all.”
“He said remember the name not remember the face.”
