Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.

With a full program reset nearly complete, Darian DeVries continues to remake his personnel for next season and the last few days have been another step towards accomplishing this. While the women’s squad has some continuity, they have to make over their roster as well and added another player this week.

Besides this, we will provide some information on where former Hoosiers are headed in the NFL and also provide an update on Hoosiers in the NBA playoffs. As usual, we will conclude with weekly shows and a look at other Indiana sports, led by soccer announcing a huge matchup for their opener next fall.

Here is what is in this week’s edition:

• IU lands three more commitments from the transfer portal• Women’s basketball adds portal point guard• Two former IU football players selected in the NFL draft• Hoosiers in the NBA playoffs• Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows• Hoosier Roundup

Banner #1 – IU lands three more commitments from the transfer portal

With a full personnel reset underway, Darian DeVries continues to add and chase prospects to fill out the roster. It was known that DeVries’ son Tucker would follow his dad to campus and incoming freshman Trent Sisley is sticking with the Hoosiers. Also, Luke Goode is petitioning for a medical redshirt and DePaul transfer Conor Enright and Davidson transfer Reed Bailey are already committed. Finally, Lamar Wilkerson, Tayton Conerway, and Jasai Miles were in the fold heading into this week.

The latest names to join the fold were Drexel’s Jason Drake, Elon’s Nick Dorn and Florida’s Sam Alexis.

Of the recruits coming to Indiana so far, they make up a strong class that features five in the 247Sports top 150. Finally, when it comes to rosters, Inside the Hall looked at where all the Big Ten squads stand currently.

Banner #2 – Women’s basketball adds portal point guard

The women have had to make over their roster as well between graduations and transfers leaving after several years of stability. Prior to this past week, they were able to get portal commitments from Virginia’s Edessa Noyan, UCLA’s Zania Socka-Nguemen, Alabama’s Chloe Spreen and Arkansas’ Phoenix Stotijn.

The last few days saw a fifth player join the fold. This came in the form of Duquesne’s Jerni Kiaku, who was a constant starter for the Dukes.

The other big story from the program this week was a change to the coaching staff. Linda Sayavongchanh is out as an assistant coach while Colsten Thompson takes her place in a similar role. Colsten, like Spreen, was with the Crimson Tide previously where he was instrumental in signing a pair of top-15 recruiting classes nationally.

Banner #3 – Two former IU football players selected in the NFL draft

After a record-setting 11-2 season from IU that featured an appearance in the college football playoff, Indiana had two standouts drafted into the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers were the landing spot for both, with linebacker CJ West (fourth round) and star quarterback Kurtis Rourke (seventh round) headed to the Bay Area to begin their pro careers.

Banner #4 – Hoosiers in the NBA playoffs

There continue to be several former Hoosiers competing in the NBA. Four of them have had their seasons continue, as the teams they are on are a part of the playoffs.

New York’s OG Anunoby, Indiana’s Thomas Bryant locally, Golden State’s Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Miami’s Kel’el Ware are all in the postseason. Anunoby, Bryant, and Jackson-Davis are all on the right side of 2-1 leads in their series, while Ware trails 3-0.

Banner #5 – Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows

Podcast on the Brink returned this week. On it, Inside the Hall alum William McDermott discussed the transfer portal additions for IU.

The Back Home Network has also been on air multiple times in the last few days. Crimson Cast and Doing The Work both had shows this week.

Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup

• Soccer announced a signature matchup to open its season this coming fall as they will host Clemson on August 21.

• Kappa Alpha Theta won the Little 500 on the women’s side while Black Key Bulls emerged victorious for the men.

• Baseball continued its inconsistent season taking their series finale against Maryland and knocking off Ball State before falling to Iowa twice. Also, a couple of their players received honors for their strong play and a couple of former Hoosiers made their MLB debut.

• Softball beat Ball State before losing twice to Oregon.

• Rowing won the Dale England Cup.

• Men’s Golf was fifth at the Boilermaker Invitational.

• Women’s golf was 16th at the Big Ten Championship as a couple of their players were invited to the postseason.

• Men’s tennis beat Penn State to close their season.

• Women’s tennis lost to Northwestern to close their season as one of their players received academic honors.

• Water polo fell to USC and Arizona State to close their season.

• Volleyball will be part of media day later this summer.

• Swimming and diving had six All-Americans.

• Wrestling will have seven athletes in the US Open.

Thanks for your continued support of The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall. We’ll be back next weekend with a new roundup.

Now go enjoy yourself a 6-banner Sunday.
