The PGA Tour finishes its Texas trip at the Valero Texas Open this week. The final stop before Augusta National is officially here and your last chance to up the bankroll before The Masters. Take a look at your betting guide for the last tournament before major season.
Top Contenders
Leading the odds for this week is Ludvid Aberg at +1200 to win the tournament. Although not surprising to see him atop the odds there’s not much value there. Aberg had a strong start to his 2025 campaign with a win at the Genesis Invitational and a T5 at The Sentry. He has struggled to find that form in the last few tournaments coming outside the top 20 and missing the cut at The Players.
Tommy Fleetwood can be taken at a little better odds than Aberg at +1400. Fleetwood has been tricky in figuring out the best way to put money on him all season. It has been years since the golf world has seen Fleetwood lift silverware. But he’s not been in bad form either. Fleetwood hasn’t finished outside T22 all year and only has one finish outside of the top 15. At +150, Fleetwood to finish in the top 10 might be as safe as you can get.
Course Success
The Valero is taking place at the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio this weekend. Many bettors take course history into account when making their decision and rightly so. No matter the form some players just turn it up at a course they know they can win at.
Corey Connors may just be the best bet of the weekend as he not only a two-time winner at TPC San Antonio, but he’s in red-hot form. Over the last three tournaments, Conner’s worst finish is T8. He’s turning red hot at the right time after a very slow start to the season. At +1800 to win it all there’s a lot of value hopping aboard the Conners train but even a top 5 bet seems likely.
The 2021 champion and a Texas native, Jordan Spieth’s familiarity with the course and local conditions adds to his appeal. Speith has had a roller coaster 2025 with multiple top 10 finishes as well as multiple finishes outside the top 60. If there’s a course where he can turn it back on for a weekend it should be in San Antonio.
Wildcards
If you asked golf fans their dream scenario for the Valero, there is no doubt that many would hope to see Rickie Fowler back as a PGA Tour winner. As it’s the last tournament before the Masters, this is the last chance for Fowler to earn his invitation. Winning the Valero is his final opportunity and at +7500 there’s a chance to make a lot of money if you believe in miracles.
At +8000 there may actually be a method to the madness of Justin Rose’s play this year. In the 5 tournaments he’s played in Rose has missed the cut 3 times. But amazingly, in the two tournaments he made the cut, he came in T8 and T3. This has happened on and off all season and the best part is he missed the cut in his last tournament. Surely this means another finish towards the top of the leaderboard?
